Swedish (aka Relaxation Massage/ Effleurage) Swedish massage relaxes muscles through pressure applied to the muscles and joints with soothing strokes returning blood to the heart. This increases oxygen flow and releases toxins built up in the muscles. The long, fluid, flowing strokes used in Swedish massage are particularly effective when one is seeking stress reduction, relaxation, and an hour of peace and quiet. Please allow yourself permission to receive, and if you fall asleep, this is perfectly okay! |
Deep Tissue Deep tissue massage works the deeper muscles to release tension in the body, usually chronic tension. This is done with slow, deep strokes and concentrated pressure on the tense area to remove toxins and loosen muscles. Deep tissue massage can result in soreness for a day or two following the massage. Deep tissue work can involve the use of the therapist's hands, knuckles, forearms and elbows to sink into the deeper tissues and affect change. Please remember to breathe deeply during deep tissue work to allow the free flow of oxygen to all tissues. |
Reiki Reiki is an ancient form of Tibetan healing, directing/ affecting the Chi, or life force energy of both the therapist and the recipient. Reiki is different from other massage, as much of the work is not hands on, but "hands-above" the recipient. The work is very subtle, but also very powerful, and you may experience sensations of heat, cold, tingling, vibration and heaviness in the areas being worked on. It is also perfectly acceptable not to feel anything consciously- the energy work will still be effective. |
Hot Stone Hot stone massage uses heated basalt stone to soothe and relax your muscles. These smooth, volcanic stones retain heat (and cold, if appropriate) particularly well. A typical session will use large stones as heat packs to soften the muscles, and smaller stones as tools to allow the heat to penetrate during the massage. Hot stone massage is a supremely relaxing treatment. |
CranioSacral CranioSacral Therapy is a subtle, powerful therapy that works with the nervous system and the fluids and membranes of the spinal cord and brain. Through extra-gentle touch, restrictions and blockages in these areas are released, allowing for optimal functioning of the nervous system. This in turn will improve circulation, relaxation, muscle and brain function, and help to "reset" your system. Traumas, chronic tension and systemic disorders are often resolved in a few sessions.
